Causes of Knee Pain and How to Cure Them
There are many causes of the pain in the back of your knee. Knee pain is a common condition that can be caused by long-term and short-term problems. Sometimes pain in your knee is a sign of a chronic condition. Here are some of the conditions that can cause pain in the back of your knee.
One of the most common Causes of knee pain is Baker’s cyst. A Baker’s cyst is a fluid-filled pocket which forms behind the knee. This fluid is synovial fluid. Normally this fluid acts as a lubricant for your knee joint. But if you have a knee injury or arthritis, your knee may produce too much fluid that can build up and form a cyst in the back of your knee.
Baker’s cyst symptoms include trouble flexing your knee, stiffness, swelling on the back of your knee, pain in and back of your knee. If you’re active then symptoms might get worse. In the case of Baker’s cyst burst, you might feel a sharp pain in your knee.
People with this cyst may feel pressure in the back of the knee. It may grow as the size of a tennis ball. If this cyst is hitting a nerve, you might feel a tingling sensation in your knee.
Sometime’s this cyst can disappear on their own. But if treatment is needed, then it can be removed by draining, physical therapy or steroid injections.
The Meniscus is a wedge-shaped piece of cartilage on either side of the knee. It often happens during sports or other activities suddenly, when a person bends, rotate, twist or lift extremely heavy objects. Many People often hear a pop sound when the tear their meniscus. It can cause severe knee pain and might get worse over the next couple of days.
It causes symptoms that include: fatigue in the knee and leg, weakness in the knee, lost of knee motion, locking of the knee while using, swelling around the knee, the knee giving out while moving.

Posterior Cruciate Ligament Injury (PCL)
The posterior cruciate ligament is located at the back of the knee. It is ACLs partner and is another band of tissue that supports the knee. A PCL injury is less likely to be injured than the ACL injury.
PCL injury may happen if someone falls hard onto a bent knee or is in an accident that impacts the knee while it is bent. If you take a hard bow to the front of your knee, you can injure your PCL. Along with pain, PCL injury may cause swelling of the knee, trouble walking, stiffness and weakness of the knee.
Rest, ice and elevation can help a PCL injury heal faster. A severe PCL injury may require surgery.
